Problem in printing on Ubuntu, CUPS with HP Printer

I have installed CUPS on Ubuntu 8.04. My printer is HP Officejet K 7100. I get the following in syslog when I send a print.

May 23 15:15:02 host kernel: [ 2155.495875] parport0: BUSY timeout (1) in compat_write_block_pio
May 23 15:15:12 host kernel: [ 2165.486100] DMA write timed out

The only apparent solution is this. Recompiling kernel modules isn't an option for me. Has anyone got a workaround?

i've never seen that error with redhat 9!
