xmms problem

Post by outstream »

AoA

guys from the following post

http://www.linuxpakistan.net/forum2x/vi ... .php?t=573

i followed the instructions and downloaded the rpm plugin for xmms from the following link

http://havardk.xmms.org/dist/xmms-1.2.7 ... 1.i386.rpm

as given in that post. I followed the instructions but it didnt work for me. the instructions there were.

1. to download the plug-in from above given link

2. install it using rpm -uvh rpmname.rpm

3.if that doesnt works upgrade it by using rpm -u rpmname.rpm

I did it all, as instructed and nothing worked, here i`ll show u the output
====================================================

[root@localhost home]# dir
amsn-0_82.tar.gz msn songs xmms-1.2.7-21.i386.rpm
[root@localhost home]# rpm -Uvh xmms-1.2.7-21.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package xmms-1.2.7-21.p (which is newer than xmms-1.2.7-21) is already installed
[root@localhost home]# rpm -u xmms-1.2.7-21.i386.rpm
-u: unknown option
[root@localhost home]#

=====================================================

after this when i tried to check if rpm is already installed, the following thing happened.

[root@localhost home]# rpm -q xmms-1.2.7-21
package xmms-1.2.7-21 is not installed
[root@localhost home]#
=====================================================

Note: i was trying to do all this as root and mp3z are still not playing in xmms

like always, this time too i am looking forward for some good instructions

Thanks for ur precious time

Good Day
Testing?What's that? If it compiles, its good, if it boots up it is perfect.

Man are you sleeping or drunk?? (Joking)

KNow what?.....you tried installing the xmms main program rpm and not the xmms-mp3 plugin rpm.

I assume u already have xmms installed...but u cant play mp3 files with it since u dont have the mp3 plugin installed.

For that , you are required to download and install this rpm:

http://havardk.xmms.org/dist/xmms-1.2.7 ... 1.i386.rpm

Note carefully: xmms-mpg123-1.2.7.21.i386.rpm and not xmms-1.2.7-21.i386.rpm

You tried installing an old xmms main program rpm and not the xmms-mpg123 plugin rpm.

The link i mentioned, is correct:

http://havardk.xmms.org/dist/xmms-1.2.7 ... 1.i386.rpm

It appears that u changed the directory to some wrong directory which contains the xmms main rpm and not the mp3 plugin which u downloaded.

In any case, download the mp3 plugin again from:

http://havardk.xmms.org/dist/xmms-1.2.7 ... 1.i386.rpm

and after cd to the directory where it is downloaded issue this command:

rpm -Uvh xmms-mpg123-1.2.7-21.i386.rpm

This will install the mp3 plugin and you will be able to play mp3 files in xmms.
