56K modem connect time.

Can a 56K dialup connect in 15 seconds?

where did you test. I have tested multiple ISPs but no one connect before 30 sec.

i haven't tried recently. are you counting the dialing time? i'm not.

ofcourse yaar, pta is saying that your dialup connection should be connected within 15 sec but on the other end the first ranked isp from them is connecting in 30+ sec. Dont know how they ranked it #1 (49 out of 50 and 9 out of 10 for connection time).

if you cut down on some of the negotiation, it can connect in under ten seconds.

i think we have only enabled PAP for auth protocol, can you give me some hint what exactly you are talking about as I dont have configured the AS so I have to discuss it with my colleague.

there are three steps here: dialing, modems negotiating a common protocol, and then there's the ppp authentication (but, of course, only if you're using ppp -- not a requirement). the common protocols i'm talking about are things like v.42bis, v.90/v.92, etc.

the second step is the longest one. you don't really have a lot of control here -- the other modem may be a dumb soft-modem on a slow computer, or it might be an external serial modem.

so it seems to me its difficult to cut the time since we cant disable important negotiations.
