Dear imran_vu ,

Both of them are popular , in specific field .

Redhat is linux based distro , and solaris is bsd based ,
btw you can google for more details :) .

Slight Correction: Solaris used to be based on BSD. It's been SVR4 based for quite some time now.

Back to the original question, Solaris is popular due to inertia. A huge number of Solaris shops have migrated to Linux (Redhat/SuSE) and more are doing so every day.

Solaris 10 has a number of killer features (my favorite being dtrace), and NexentaOS provides a reasonably simple way to get up and running with Solaris without having to mess with the rather nasty stock Solaris installer.

A0A!!

In past solaris was dominatiing in enterprise market arena.

But now RHEL and SUSE have chagned the scenerio with enterprise level solutions and support availability . and by lowering the cost.
