Alfa digital cards are working with recent kernel and ivtv based too, old bt787 driver based cards sucks .i've tried Asus also and it worked fine ,make sure that you have Philps sa713xx tv tuner chip on pci tv card . better use ubuntu 12. old wintv card use bt787 drivers don't use them ,newest cards...
