GroupWare solution using Linux

Post by maiqbal »

Hi there,

Has anyone deployed a complete groupware email solution over linux; requirements would be:

Global address book
Shared Calender
Group Tasks
Group schedules
Public Folders with permissions
Portal

I am working on OpenXchange, Scalix and CommuniGate Pro but having a lot of problems. If someone has done it before I will appreciate to listen.

I will publish my experiences in this thread very soon.

Dear Asif
what MTA are you using? sendmail? i guess
or if you are interested to migrate from exchange server then you should read the following book.
"Migrating from exchange server to qmail" (In this case you will have to go for qmail)
try to search for this book on internet, you can get it easily.
Because this book has scenarios for qmail deployment according to exchange server.

By the way you can check out following link to evaluate linux based groupware softwares.

Dear Saad & Farrukh,

As I have told you my requirements are as below:

Global address book
Shared Calender
Group Tasks
Group schedules
Public Folders with permissions
Portal

None of the suggested groupware has Public Folders. Can you guys have a search again (I am in search too)?

P.S To Saad: I am not dependent on MTA and can use any of sendmail, Postfix, qmail etc.

Dear Asif

If you want to go it with eGroupware so there are lot of on Linux , but almost are licensed based not open source i am also using novell Groupwise 7 on SuSE Linux , its works perfectly, I am using it from last 9 months and i have even no single problem with that no single reboot , email delivery is perfect ,
http://www.novell.com/products/groupwise/ have a look at that
it is completly managed by novell directory services which is novell eDirectory (bit complicated to deploy first time but too much reliable)

other is openExchange it is also a good product its works with Redhat and SuSE both may be other
If you have purchased the subscription of Redhat Enterprise Linux leave every thing and Deploy
Zimbra eGroupware go to Redhat Exchange http://rhx.redhat.com

you can also do the all centralization using LDAP and postfix but its need good knowledge on LDAP and mySQL if you have you can do this , http://google.com/linux is your Good Friend to help you out
Cheers :)

Years back I also tried to configure openex-change but due to lot of problems I droped it.

You should try vmware image to see what it can deliver to you and then put some efforts on configuring it yourself.
