How can i recover the root password in RH Linux AS.

on the grub splash screen slect the kernel linux
press 'e' to edit it ...you might have to press 'e' twice ..see the messages at bottom
add -s in the end
then 'b' to reboot it in the single user mode it will drop you on the shell

another method is to boot from CD
boot : linux rescue
and press enter

it will also take you to the shell

in university when we study linux network programming. our teacher tell us this technique but later i forget it. I want to ask this question on linuxpakistan.net. But i got answare befor question.

'linux rescue' is an easy way... you can mount and chroot to your liunux and change the root password. There is little or no chance of actually 'recovering' your old password.

its dosn't work. but by pressing a and then enter -s work fine.
