US Robotics modem help

Hello Guys,
I h've got a us robotics 5630B external serial modem. I have installed fedora core 4 and it didn't detect my modem. Please help me. I am totally tired of buying modems. a friend told me that external modems work under linux but this one costing me Rs.4200 is not working. I am waiting for your kind responses

External Serial modems and esp. USR external modems work with Linux pretty well , just make sure that you are using the correct com port , i mean selecting the right com port settings from kppp or wvdial instead of /dev/modem, does your modem show any lights when you try to dial from your system.

First make sure your modem is on when you start your Linux Box !!

Type this command and see if you have any US or

# /etc/rc.d/init.d/kudzu start
# dmesg

Show here what you get !!
