Hey There,

dude dont replace exchange 5.5 with sendmail , rather use qmail or post fix , they will solve your problems almost all of them , search google for qmail+antivirus+spam protection and you'll find tons of howto to setup a complete mailing solution with opensource stuff.

cheers

yes, qmail works great. you just have to install 3426 patches and 674 additional applications.

if you're not familiar with smtp or unix, use postfix or sendmail instead.

Regarding the migration part, I use offlineimap for converting exchange mailboxes to Maildir format. I remember there being an automated tool for doing the same thing, but I can't remember the name.

You won't be able to do server hosted contacts and calendars, etc with straight Postfix, though. You'd have to use a groupware server like OpenGroupware, Kontact or Hula (I'm forgetting the other names).

Oh, and I'd recommend against Sendmail unless you enjoy pain :)
