thanks funaki.. i configured the prob..

the thing is it wasnt detecting my monitor.. its weird.. anywayz i reinstalled mandrake and tried my luck with some other closest philips monitor to mine... it worked :D

i previously installed RH 7.3 for some reason.. it was running perfectly well.. but once when i booted my pc, i didnt get my graphical display... i was being asked for the root password in the text display format.. khair i installed mandrake the other day.. and it too automatically leads me to the t...

hi i'd like to know how much time does a person require to learn C, perl and assembly? by the way, is programming over windows different from programming over linux? i'm nill when it comes to programming but i want to start learning it soon.. how much time will it take to learn C, perl and assembly ...

well i wouldnt want to use FREEBSD... its 'advanced' for a user like me..

i think i should start 'toying' with linux more to understand what exactly is happening in the background..

thanks so okay.. ive been using linux from quite some while now.. and yeah i've been using it with the help of GUI.. never tried to learn to use it thru command line.. and i remember i always used to see you people helping each other on the forum by telling commands to issue thru the command line.. ...

ive seen a lot of forum members, especially the seniors suggesting SLACKWARE instead of RH

true that RH is toooooo sloppy on ancient boxes..

but is slackware any good?

thanks guys.. yeah thats pretty much what i assumed and figured out that one needs to install softwares to open ports on win98... on win2000 and XP some ports are open by default and we can always close them

How to open my own pc's ports?

this question has bugged me a lot in the past how does one open his own pc's ports on WINDOWS?... i know linux gives us the liberties to do this, and so do WINXP and WIn2K... for eg, they allow us to open port 25 for smtp relaying... but how does one open a specific port in win98 (lets say port 25) ?
